Anti-Terrorism & Code Enforcement: Over-looked... Forgotten... Disregarded.... Most Importnant!
ROUTINE CALLS? Everyday, nation-wide, Code Enforcement Officers are the first responders to the following routine complaints:
"There is way too many people...foreigners...living it that house and I want something done about it!
"There is some sort of illegal or unlicensed business at that place...they have old box trucks and people always going in and out of there"
"There are 55 gallon drums of chemicals always around that house...I know they're running some sort of business there"
Although these calls are received daily in both large and small jurisdictions there is nothing 'routine' about them. These three simple complaints contain the key-items looked for regarding terrorist activity!
Always think about it. Tons of anti-terrorism funds and training are poured into local, state & federal law enforcement agencies. We may be over-looked and not even considerded as part of anti-terroist operations; odds are a Code Enforcement complaint, generated by fed-up neighbors or near-by business owners, will cause a first contact encounter with terrorist activity.
We need training and funds to better utilize our positions and skills in the protection of the public health, safety and welfare. E-mail, write and call your local politicians to get this ball rolling. Some of us may have already been standing in the middle of a terrorist cel talking to terrorists and not even realized it. |
